The M-Day has finally arrived.

The 41 running of Marcialonga is almost here, tomorrow at 8am on the dot, 8.000 registered skiers from 30 nations will jump on their skis and ride the 70k long track from Moena to Cavalese in the Italian Dolomites.

Last year's winners Seraina Boner and Jørgen Aukland are certainly the number one favourites, even if Jørgen have not 100 per cent of his shape due to a recent shoulder injury. Anders Aukland will also be at the start of the Italian ski-marathon as Norwegian Østensen, Dahl, Svartedal, Berdal, Callesen and Kjølstad will, doing their best to ruin plans to the Aukland brothers. Ahrlin, Svärd, Tynell and Brink will attempt to get the Swedish flag back swinging on the final podium, but do not forget Czech Koukal, Novak and Rezac, Swiss Livers, Russian Dementiev, Sorin and Rotchev and Italian Debertolis, Morandini or Bonaldi. On women’s side, Boner will battle it up against Nyström, Rotcheva, Kveli, Lintzen and Jambaeva among others.

Some World and Olympic medallists have also booked their Marcialonga bib, such as Italy’s Pietro Piller Cottrer, Silvio Fauner and Cristian Zorzi, Bente Skari Martinsen of Norway, Per Elofsson and Terje Langli.

Marcialonga is part of the Swix Ski Classics series, Worldloppet and FIS Marathon Cup.

Around 20 TV channels from all over the planet will be broadcasting live and delayed tomorrow’s event in Trentino region. Among them: TV2 Norway, MTV3 Finland, TV4 Sweden, Nova Greece, SPTV Croatia, Sport+ France, Band Sport Brazil and PCTV Mexico, plus national RAI Sport 1 and 2.

On the eve of the long-distance XC race, the Marcialonga Story promo event took place this morning. A couple of hundreds of skiers turned up at the XC stadium in Lago di Tesero and gave life to a stunning vintage-event, all wearing skis, boots, jumpers and entire outfits from those days. Franco Nones, 1968 Grenoble gold medallist, wore the skis from the Olympics and the complete outfit from the first Marcialonga held in 1971. Mini Marcialonga for children, Marcialonga Young and Marcialonga Stars for charity followed in the afternoon.
