NOT ONLY "SENATORS" AT MARCIALONGA

In the valleys of Fiemme e Fassa (Trentino region, Italy) the air is pure, as everybody knows, and all the more so in this period of the year: The track connecting the two valleys is almost ready and volunteers are working hard to complete it for the 44th Marcialonga scheduled next 29th of January.
The ski-marathon organising committee is now celebrating its “senators”, i.e. ten legendary skiers who took part in Marcialonga every single year. But Marcialonga di Fiemme e Fassa also includes a whole range of initiatives, side events and skiing challenges for all ages, starting from the youngest. Marcialonga will give children up to 6 years the opportunity of trying cross-country skiing with Marcialonga Baby, an initiative launched last year that will take place on the 27th of January, two days before the most important Italian cross-country skiing race. Young skiers will ski along a track in the town of Predazzo and the equipment will be put at disposal by the organising committee. The mascots Fondolo and Skiri will also be present, together with the clowns “Braciacoi” who will entertain the children along the 100-metre track that will give them the opportunity of experiencing the thrill of their first cross-country skiing performance.
The 32nd Minimarcialonga will instead be held on the 28th of January at the Cross country stadium in Lago di Tesero. Young skiers from 6 to 12 years will compete in classic technique on a 3-km ring on the World championships tracks of Val di Fiemme. It is a non-competitive event aiming at promoting cross-country skiing in a context of joy and fun. Minimarcialonga is also open to the children of Marcialonga participants, who will therefore have the opportunity of admiring their “heirs” before their race.
On Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th of January it will be the turn of Marcialonga Young, open to young skiers that will be soon part of the great Marcialonga family. Marcialonga Young is organised every year with the collaboration of Cornacci Ski Team of Tesero and it is included in the Italian cross-country skiing calendar. The event is open to young skiers born from 1998 to 2004 and it includes a 4-km mass start race in classic style on Saturday for younger skiers at the cross country stadium, a 9-km race and a 14-km race with the Cascata climb on Sunday for the remaining categories.
