Skiers vs cyclists: Peter Andreas Prydz Gørbitz won the free bib

After opening the entries for Italy, the classic winter Marcialonga is finding its way among skiers from all around the world. From June 5th, entries for the traditional ski-marathon through Fiemme and Fassa valleys will be available everywhere: the 51st Marcialonga, taking place on Sunday January 28th, is coming true.
Another true and strong reality is the linking between athletes and this historical event, always lived with passion and acknowledgement. For the second year in a row, Marcialonga took the second place in the “Event of the Season” ranking, yearly developed by Ski Classics, aka the long distances World Championship, according to athletes’, staff’s and officials’ votes. The Norwegian Summit 2 Senja was nominated the most popular race in the XIV season with the 36% of the total votes. Third place for Pustertaler Ski-Marathon, last year winner with its iconic Prato Piazza Mountain Challenge. Moreover, Marcialonga beat once again the mythical Vasaloppet, “only” with a 5th position this year.
Marcialonga is a rollercoaster of ideas and found a new way to get skiers into the winter mood. For the first tranche of entries, specifically open for Italian skiers, Marcialonga organised a lottery with a special prize, an “ercolina cable training station”, won by the lucky bib number 1150. Furthermore, given the passage of the Tour of the Alps on the uphill of Passo Pramadiccio, people enjoyed trying to guess the time of the head group along the epic and historic Cascata, until the starting point of “Mur de la Stria”.
On Thursday April 20th, the first cyclist passing by during the Tour of the Alps stage took 2’53’’. During the 50th Marcialonga, the Norwegian Morten Eide Pedersen, third place in 2017 and 2018, skied the very same track in 4’56’’ speeding at 11-13 km/h. Nobody could guess the exact time of the pro cyclists, yet Peter Andreas Prydz Gørbitz was the closest, therefore he won a free bib for the 51st Marcialonga.
In the meantime, in the general headquarter in Predazzo, Italian cross-country skiers registered are already 1500. The number is about to get triple by June. Despite the upcoming summer, this race is a must-have for true Marcialonga lovers, something you cannot miss during the winter: booking a bib is almost a duty.
The uncertain final meters letting athletes parading trough Cavalese heats the audience and the athletes themselves, aiming to make history by winning the “Grand Classics”. Stay tuned!
