Marcialonga is ready to crown the new king and queen
Eyes on Gjerdalen, Persson and Novak, Johansson and Dahl among women
Plot twist: no Marit Bjørgen and Oskar Kardin
Marcialonga is also Story, Stars and Young

Marcialonga is a hurricane of emotions, gathering everyone from children to adults, local people and foreigners coming to Italy, to Fiemme and Fassa valleys, in order to catch the magic atmosphere only Marcialonga can give.
37 nations ready for over 5000 participants for this 49th edition, starting on Sunday at 8 am from Moena. First bibs are for élite of the Visma Ski Classics circuit, among them, Emil Persson, winner in 2021, Max Novak, current leader of the Visma ranking. Also, there is the Norwegian Tord Asle Gjerdalen, who, seen the good weather forecast, is ready to show his traditional pair of Ray-Ban...
From Norway also some bad news arrived: Marit Bjørgen, one of the strongest cross-country skier ever with Olympic medals, World Championships and World Cup titles, is positive to Covid-19. The Swedish Oskar Kardin is absent too, due to an accident. While he was training in Livigno he got hit by a car, nothing serious luckily and he will soon be back on skis. Among women, eyes on Britta Johansson Norgren and Ida Dahl, both leaders of the Visma ranking.
The ‘Marcialonga journey’ starts tomorrow with the ‘Story’, a revival that brings back all in time, precisely in the 70s with equipment pre 1976 and vintage clothes. Starting line on the Olympic track in Lago di Tesero at 9.30 am. Some of them will have a ‘pit-stop’ at Nele in Ziano di Fiemme, ending after 12,5 km in Predazzo, at the Ski Jumping stadium.
Once ‘Story’ is done, it is time for ‘Stars’: at 1 pm, again at the cross-country stadium in Lago di Tesero, the non-competitive race starts with many famous testimonials to sustain the charity initiative with LILT (an Italian league for the fight against cancer).
What about the youngest? Marcialonga is also ‘Young’, tomorrow is time for U14 and U16 categories, Sunday is for U18 and U20.
Bets are open, who will be the first, winning 5.300€? Who will be the last? Let’s see what will happen in Cavalese.
Marcialonga is live on Sky Sport 1 and Sky Sport Arena from 7.35 am, following from 12 am broadcasting live from the finish line, until the last one (6 pm more or less).
